Taking a Gamble with the Last Frost – May 25, 2017
I planted the last of the tomatoes (if there really is a last) in the only open space left in the raised garden beds. Granted there are 4 or 5 more plants in individual pots hanging around the periphery of the bed. Not sure what to do with them but eventually all the plants find a home. Every year I approach planting a bit differently and this year my plan was do early starts and plant them out in mid May. We should be enjoying our first spinach and lettuce by June 10th!! Now let’s cross our fingers the weather cooperates.
Providing all our Vegetable Needs
My goal is simple, to grow all the vegetables we need during the summer months, and freeze as much of the surplus as possible. I still have frozen zucchini and blueberries for my morning smoothie from last year’s harvest. There is something pleasing about being self sufficient and knowing the food we eat free of chemicals and grown with loving care. I have been experimenting with overwintering herbs and this year hope to grow potatoes all year.
