Mother Nature Being Fickle
Dear Friends and Family,
It is a dreary, rainy day here in Washington, VT. Mother Nature is making a weak effort to send a few snowflakes (snow pellets) our way. But it is warming up which is certainly welcome compared to the below freezing weather of the past few weeks. Winter is coming but it can mosey along slowly as far as we are concerned.
Deer hunting is progressing as it does each year. The hunters who spend days in the woods early in the month are getting their prey and weighing in with some sizable deer. I saw several small deer from the window in our living room this morning, wandering down by the pond and across the front field. We are sure they are munching on the leftover kale in the garden. And yesterday, just after JB left to go sit in his blind up on the hill, I walked to the mailbox and found two areas of deer poop recently deposited. They are making their presence known which is unusual this time of year. With the mild winter we had last year, the expectation is the herd is healthy and plentiful.
Evening Class Commitment
I am in the early phase of teaching an EMT class. It is going fairly well even though I have the beginning teaching jitters. I always wonder how I am being received by the students. Then the whole adult education thing rears its ugly head. Many people want to make the commitment taking a course like this and then helping out their community either as a first responder or volunteering for the local ambulance service. But in reality, many people just don’t get what it takes to do this job. The time commitment alone defeats their good intentions.
And the actual work can be rewarding, scary, or tedious depending on the circumstances. Sounds like most other jobs too, I guess. Anyway, it is frustrating when people miss class, don’t read the book, don’t get their assignments done, or don’t interact in class. I will say, this group is coming into it and beginning to get familiar with my style along with getting to know the each other. There is a time when teamwork starts to play into the dynamic. I think we are almost there.
Sending you warm thoughts,
Patricia
