Hello to my Dear Supportive Family and Friends,
The cordwood got delivered sometime early in August this year. This is super early for us as usually we are still taking about what we think we need and it gets put on the shelf for another day. JB called our delivery guy the third week of July and then had his accident. So the day it got delivered, we were hanging out of the front porch. JB has done a bit of sitting during the healing process and this was another day of that.
Our wood guy has his son driving for him now. He came with the longer wood for the basement and dumped that out by the garden. The shorter wood is a dwindling pile at this point just to the north of the house and on the edge of the lawn. It’s a location that worked pretty well last year letting the southern sun dry out the ends while still allowing it to me somewhat accessible for trucking it into the house. I guess they say by the time the wood actually heats the house it has been handled put to six times and the seventh is getting the ashes out of the bottom of the stove.
In the beginning, JB was not able to move much wood. He had not had his second surgery so his hands were still functioning, if not ideally. He was able to stand and pivot to the closer stack and so was able to do a little everyday. Then he had the pins put in his thumb and that was the end of moving wood for a while. Three weeks after the pin surgery, he got a cool black cast which allowed him to do a lot more while still protecting and immobilizing his thumb.
